Vastly considered the biggest event in the history of UK underground culture, Eskimo Dance was founded in 2002 during the upsurge of this new sound in the UK: grime. The event shaped the careers of some of the biggest names to emerge from the genre – Wiley, Dizzee Rascal, Kano, Tinie Tempah, Lethal Bizzle, Skepta, Stormzy and more.

Following a 6-year hiatus, it was time for Grime royalty to bring the event series back to life. The expansion of the scene over the years has seen some of the genre’s early talent go on to achieve national success. The rise of UK Grime and Rap became a global trend; colossal superstars P Diddy, Kanye West and Drake have co-signed the sound and continue to keep their eyes peeled on the main stars.

The legendary event returned in 2012, selling out regional tours consecutively along with collaborating with festivals including Bestival and Splash. Having conquered the tours and selling out venues across the country as well as competing in the infamous Red Bull Culture Clash, Eskimo Dance secured its spot as the #1 live experience of the genre – an accolade cemented in 2016 when Eskimo Dance sold out Wembley Arena with a legendary star-studded show that has gone down in the history of UK music.

Now – it’s our turn.

MAY 2018
Presented by Illusive Presents, Frontier Touring, Acclaim, FBi Radio (Sydney only), SNIFFERS (NZ only) & 95bFM (NZ only)

Illusive Presents and Frontier Touring are delighted to welcome Playboi Carti to Australia and New Zealand for the very first time in March. Young Carti will be stopping by Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane, Sydney and Auckland to deliver his chart busting tracks from his self-titled 2017 debut mixtape, out now worldwide on AWGE/Interscope Records.

Released on April 14, Playboi Carti debuted at #12 on the Billboard 200 charts. The mixtape features Carti’s two hit singles ‘Magnolia’ and ‘wokeuplikethis*’ both of which embody the 22-year-old rapper’s experimental but hook-heavy sound. The songs spent the summer simultaneously climbing the Billboard 100 chart and Spotify’s RapCaviar playlist, as Carti performed at festivals across North America and Europe, solidifying his place at the forefront of today’s breakout hip-hop artists.

Within a month of its release, ‘Magnolia’ went viral, amassing over 63 million streams on Spotify (currently stands at 168 million.) Featuring Philadelphia rapper Lil Uzi Vert, Playboi Carti’s follow-up track “wokeuplikethis*” has garnered over 102 million Spotify streams.

‘Gunning for the song of the summer’ – Pitchfork on Magnolia

‘One of the Internet`s most buzzed-about new hip-hop artists’ – Rolling Stone

‘Carti is one of the most buzzing new artists out.’ – XXL

Playboi Carti’s breakout hit ‘Broke Boi’ arrived in spring 2015, around the same time that Playboi Carti made his debut at SXSW and ended up crossing paths with A$AP Rocky. Shortly afterwards, Playboi Carti relocated to the Bronx to begin work on his debut project.

Now based in his hometown of Atlanta, Playboi Carti has also won recognition within the fashion world. Along with landing features in GQ, Vogue and W Magazine, he holds the distinction of being the only rapper to feature in Kanye West’s Yeezy Season 5 show at New York Fashion Week in February of this year. This month he was featured as the music callout in Forbes’ annual 30 Under 30 list.

No stranger to performing live, Carti recently sold out his debut headlining tour, including shows in New York, LA, Atlanta and London. Vevo dropped into the first of two sold out nights in London to capture him perform ‘Magonolia’ and ‘wokeuplikethis*’ to a crowd that knew every single word.

‘Carti turned his set into a full-on rager’ – Billboard

‘His stage presence was electrifying, he had so much energy which was directly mirrored by the crowd’ – Village Underground UK

‘More than a rapper, the… [Carti] performed like a rock star’ – Washington Post

The international hype surrounding Playboi Carti is very much real right now. Fans across Australia and New Zealand are encouraged to act quickly to avoid disappointment. |

20 Year Celebration of "Bring It On"
with special guests
Wednesday 4 April 2018 - Metro City
Perth Presented by Bluesfest TouringRTRFM 92.1 & Metro City

Bluesfest Touring are proud to welcome Gomez back to Australia for their first tour in 6 years and the 20th anniversary of their breakthrough album ‘Bring It On’. Featuring the hits "78 Stone Wobble" and "Get Myself Arrested”, ‘Bring It On’ is an album beloved by fans and critics alike – with so much to celebrate this is a show not to be missed.

The five members of Gomez played their first shows together in Leeds in late 1996, and soon began recording songs in lead singer Olly’s, dad’s garage in Southport. The demos aroused considerable interest, and the group signed to the Virgin subsidiary label Hut Records in 1997. These garage demos eventually became their debut, ‘Bring It On’, which was praised in the rock press on both sides of the Atlantic.

The group stood apart in their attitude and demeanour from the Brit-pop groups then currently in vogue. Typical of this was the comment from the panel of judges for the Mercury Music Prize who described the album as "an intriguing blend of swamp blues, bar-room rock and eerie power." Gomez won 1998’s Mercury Music Prize for Album of the Year, where they edged out such stiff competition as Massive Attack`s Mezzanine, the Verve`s ‘Urban Hymns’ and Pulp‘s ‘This Is Hardcore’.

‘Bring It On’ was followed by several more critically acclaimed and highly successful records such as 1999’s ‘Liquid Skin’, 2004’s ‘Split the Difference’ and ‘How We Operate ‘in 2006.

Gomez are living proof that perseverance and consistency are qualities to be proud, of as the group have ridden out changes in fads and styles around them to maintain their popularity and critical standing around the world. ‘Bring It On’ has a creative buzz, the excitement and spirit of adventure that comes when any young band starts out -- and which Gomez have, with no self-aggrandised fanfare, successfully maintained to this day. Bluesfest Touring are thrilled to welcome them back to Australia at such an important time in their career.

Gomez will play Bluesfest Byron Bay on Thursday 29 and Friday 30 March 2018
